Stopping Infiltration through the MH Chimney

Problem: Leak of water though failed joints in sewer manhole chimney area in a tidal zone. At high tide, joints and cracks are submerged resulting in substantial inflow.

Solution: Flex Seal Utility Sealant was used to seal the joints between the risers, frame and cracks in the manhole chimney area.

Result: Inflow/ infiltration through failed joints stopped

Comments: In stopping the leak, the water authority has immediately regained the lost capacity, reduced operational and treatment costs caused by the infiltration.

1) Low tide failed joints and cracks exposed

2) High tide, failed joint and cracks submerged

3) Flex Seal permanently sealing riser and frame
